Chief Engineer - Liveaboard

WE’RE HIRING A FLEET CHIEF ENGINEER Location: Malé, Maldives Industry: Liveaboard Tourism We are looking for an experienced and highly capable Fleet Chief Engineer to oversee the engineering operations, maintenance, and technical performance of our liveaboard fleet. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to onboard engineering teams, ensure preventive maintenance standards are consistently followed, support breakdowns and major repairs, and work closely with the Head of Operations to ensure vessels operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee engineering operations across the liveaboard fleet Lead and support onboard engineering teams Develop and monitor preventive maintenance programmes Conduct vessel inspections and technical assessments Troubleshoot major breakdowns and recurring technical issues Monitor engines, generators, electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, watermakers and auxiliary machinery Coordinate spare parts, procurement and engineering inventory Support technical budgeting and maintenance cost control Ensure engineering safety and maritime compliance Support dry-docking, refits, machinery replacements and technical upgrades Minimize vessel downtime through proactive maintenance and technical planning REQUIREMENTS Recognized Marine Engineering qualification / Certificate of Competency Minimum 5–8 years of relevant marine engineering experience Previous experience as a Chief Engineer on commercial vessels, yachts, safari vessels or liveaboards is highly advantageous Proven experience supervising or managing engineering teams Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines, generators, electrical systems and auxiliary machinery Strong troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills Good understanding of preventive/planned maintenance systems Good procurement and cost-control awareness Strong leadership, reporting and communication skills Good command of English Willingness to travel between vessels and provide technical support as required WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS Technically strong • Proactive • Safety-focused • Organized • Accountable • Solutions-oriented • A strong team leader This is a key technical leadership position responsible for maintaining high engineering standards across the fleet and serving as the primary engineering support to the Head of Operations.
